There is strong national support for the transformation of the public sector among the general public, public sector workers, the private sector and civil society.
Recent research conducted by Market Research Services Limited on behalf of the Transformation Implementation Unit (TIU) revealed that 77% of the population believes that public sector transformation is good for the future of Jamaica while 89% of public sector workers, businesspersons and civil society share that view.
Additionally, 76% of the population believes that public sector transformation will help the development of the country and that number is higher among key stakeholders at 87%.
Executive Director of the TIU, Maria Thompson Walters noted that the findings are encouraging whilst observing that the public sector transformation programme is proceeding apace and is already making an impact. “Even more encouraging is that 77% of public sector workers agree that public sector transformation should be a priority for the Government of Jamaica and 59% of them are satisfied with how the programme is being implemented,” Ms Thompson Walters said.
She added that the TIU has made significant gains in transforming the public sector such as the rationalization of 41 public bodies and the implementation of MyHR+, the human resource information management system, in 22 ministries, departments and agencies.
